The Galway Drum Show
In the Club
I have been a member of Athlone Photography Club for a number of years where I have honed my craft and taken inspiration from the many talented photographers that make up our club. Over the years, I have shot lots of different subject matters but shooting a live music performance is where my heart lies. This is where my two passions of music and photography come together in perfect synergy.
How it started
John Tierney, the organiser of the Galway Drum Show, contacted Lyndsey, a member of Athlone Photography Club, looking for a photographer to cover the event. Lyndsey opened the request to the club and I immediately sprang at the opportunity.
The Event
It was a two day event. On the first day I got the opportunity to sit in and photograph Claus Hessler during his drum master class and witness the setup of the Galway Drum show at Cue One. Later that night I got to shoot at my favourite bar in Galway, Roisin Dubh, where I shot R.S.A.G.’s performance.
I was joined by Lyndsey, Dawn and Sebastian for the second day of the Galway Drum Show.
Drummers 🤘🏼
Young Irish Drummer 22
Part of the show was a competition to crown the Young Irish Drummer 22. There were two finalists, Aibhlinn Doheny and Ryan Whelan.
On the Fringe
The organisers, musicians and public at the event were among the nicest people I have ever met. I loved every single second of it.
